Mercy Housing California (MHC) and Abode Communities are working in conjunction with the County of Santa Clara, represented by County Supervisor Joe Simitian, Facebook, the City of Palo Alto, and participating school districts in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties to develop new housing on a county-owned site. The property, located at 231 Grant Avenue in Palo Alto, offers an exciting opportunity to create new high-quality, and much-needed, rental housing affordable for teachers, school employees, and their families. This new community will include studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments, amenity spaces, and landscaped gardens.

 

231 Grant began construction in July 2023. Its estimated completion date is April 2025. Marketing and application information will be available in late 2024.  

PROJECT SPECIFICS

  • Construction of 110 affordable rental apartments for teachers, school employees, and their families  

  • Private indoor and outdoor communal spaces

  • Large, landscaped courtyards/recreation areas on the 2nd floor

  • Indoor lounge and community space

  • Secured bike parking

DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS

Mercy Housing and Los Angeles-based Abode Communities, along with the County of Santa Clara, the City of Palo Alto, and participating school districts in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, are partnering to create these much-needed new homes.

COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Mercy Housing California and Abode Communities are committed to incorporating the local community into the development process through a variety of means, including input from neighbors, neighborhood associations, and local leaders, as well as written and electronic communications. In observance of health guidelines related to COVID-19, MHC and Abode Communities will solicit community input through virtual meetings, email, regular mail, and this website, as well as through in-person meetings.
